Most ancient and medieval structures in Europe were destroyed or repurposed by Europeans. The only reason Rome and parts of Italy are preserved the way they are is because most of it was buried in soil until the 20th century. Mussolini's regime alone dug a lot of it up. Even the greatest leader of modern Europe, Napolean, went around vandalizing and stealing across multiple continents.

If pre-Islamic archeology needed to destroyed outright then it would have been done over a thousand years ago or during the first few centuries of Muslim rule.
