Why did Christianity not take root in Japan?

Why did Christianity not take root in Japan?
Were some missionaries really trying to topple to shogunate or were the Japanese just paranoid?

japanese saw christians as too different from the mainstream japanese society.

japanese personality is the diametric opposite of the typical christian personality.

because christians were too different, japanese just brutally killed them all.

IT DID, IT HAS, AND HAS BEEN TAKING ROOT, BUT JAPANESE CHRISTIANIZATION, IN THE XVII CENTURY, WAS INTERRUPTED AT THE INSTIGATION OF NETHERLANDISH HERETICS, AND, LATER, IN THE XIX CENTURY, WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE CHURCH IN JAPAN SUFFERED FURTHER SETBACKS, CAUSED BY THE BRITISHERS, AND BY THE UNITEDSTATIANS, WHO PROMOTED SHINTO PAGANISM, APART FROM THE GENOCIDE PERPETRATED BY UNITEDSTATIANS IN THE XX CENTURY, AT HIROSHIMA, AND AT NAGASAKI, THE TOP TWO MOST CHRISTIAN CITIES IN JAPAN.

DESPITE THE ETERNAL ENEMY'S MACHINATIONS, THE CHURCH IN JAPAN SURVIVES.

There was a rebellion amongst Japanese Christians. Whether the missionaries wanted for this to happen is irrelevant because the Japanese shogunate did not want for there to be any Japanese Christians who could have a rebellion.

Because the Japanese were already into some other forms of decadence such as Buddhism.

This excerpt from Aizawa Seishisai gives a pretty good view of how Japan saw Christianity, though it’s from 1845 and not the 1600s when the persecution of Christians and the closing of Japan began

    >“Our Divine Realm is where the sun emerges. It is the source of the primordial vital force sustaining all life and order. Our Emperors, descendents of the Sun Goddess, Amaterasu, have acceded to the Imperial Throne in each and every generation, a unique fact that will never change. Our Divine Realm rightly constitutes the head and shoulders of the world and controls all nations. It is only proper that our Divine Realm illuminates the entire universe and that our dynasty’s sphere of moral suasion knows no bounds. But recently the loathsome Western barbarians, unmindful of their base position as the lower extremities of the world, have been scurrying impudently across the Four Seas, trampling other nations underfoot. Now they are audacious enough to challenge our exalted position in the world. What manner of insolence is this?”

    >“These barbarians court ultimate ruin by ignoring the moral laws of nature and refusing to accept the lowliness of their status....”

    >”Unless a Great Hero bestirs himself to assist Heaven’s normative processes, all creation will fall prey to the wily, meat-eating barbarians....”

    >“For close to three hundred years now the Western barbarians have rampaged on the high seas. Why are they able to enlarge their territories and fulfill their every desire?...Christianity is the sole key to their success. It is a truly evil and base religion, barely worth discussing. But its main doctrines are simple to grasp and well-contrived; they can easily deceive stupid commoners with it....”

      >”Whenever they seek to take over a country, they employ the same method. By trading with that nation, they learn about its geography and defenses. If these be weak, they dispatch troops to invade the nation; if strong, they propagate Christianity to subvert it from within....”

      >“Russia has expanded tremendously of late. It utilized Christianity to seduce the Ezo tribes into submission and to capture island after island [to our north]. Now Russia has turned its predatory eyes on Japan proper. The English also appear at frequent intervals, furtively trying to beguile our commoners and peoples in outlying areas.”

In the 1500s, Portuguese traders carried with them Catholic missionaries that had lots of success in Japan, both in terms of material commerce and in religious conversion
Seeing the lucrative Japanese markets, protestant Dutch and English traders told the Japanese authorities that the Catholics were an existential threat to the the shogunate, and convinced them to launch persecutions against them, which in turn inspired a major civil war/revolt, in which almost all the Christians in Japan (universally Catholic) were killed, and which caused Japan to shut off all contact with the world for 250 years, except the tiny ports the Dutch and English had for funnelling money out of Japan and into their own countries

Christianity was political from the day 1 it arrived in Japan
a lot of daimyos had seen Christianity as a great way to uproot the decadent and corrupt Buddhist priesthood by introducing a new one that would be aligned with them
but after the death of Oda Nobunaga it was basically over for the Christian because Hideyoshi was a devout Buddhist who wouldn't tolerate a foreign religion
Later the Togukawa Shogunate which was deeply in pockets of the same corrupt Buddhist priesthood was basically the final nail in the coffin for Christianity in Japan
Any stragglers who would remain Christian were later demonised by the Dutch who hated Catholics more than pagans
