Why can’t a new pagan religion be made? I think the idea that religions are only legitimate if they were made up before the enlightenment/scientific revolution is kind of silly because it’s basically just proving atheists right. I think saying that neo-pagans can be nothing but larpers casts a huge shadow of doubt over all religions, because unless magic, miracles and gods existed 2000 yr ago but not now for some reason, all major religions are just larp sessions that only derive legitimacy from being old and their origins not being able to be scientifically scrutinized. I see a ton of Christians accuse neo-pagans of LARP and to me they just sound like atheists. It would be way smarter to call neo-pagans demon worshippers or something.

>What is wicca
>didn't read
the post is an argument against those that claim wicca and neopagans to be just larpers because they don't have 'muh continuous unbroken tradition' or because 'they aren't doing/interpreting things exactly the way people did in antiquity'
Wiccans, ridiculous as It may sounds, do some Magic already
Not pagan
They've tried many different times, but the Divine has moved past pagan days.
Well it would have to have a charismatic founder. A Zarathusta. Someone who preaches to the masses and gains a following and starts a new religion. Someone who has had a divine revelation by new beings (or atleast someone who can convince others he has a divine mandate) otherwise i could just make up new gods and a new religion but that wouldn't mean anything.
>Well it would have to have a charismatic founder.
why ?
>Someone who preaches to the masses
why the needy preaching and proselytism ?
Christian , bet on it
You know to spread the new religion? Every time in history a new religion showed up they somehow had to gain followers. Joseph Smith. Mani, Mohammed, Hong Xiuquan.
Wicca started kinda private
Yes, but it is not really a organized religion and extremly fringe. I doubt it will ever gain a large enough following to be taken seriously. I think it would even be more likley if new age UFO cults became bigger. I think stuff like Theosophy and Thelema are better examples of new religions appearing than Wicca.
Believers dont need the approval of outsiders, anon
Sure and that's fine. I thought you were more in the line of a new religion rising to compete with the old ones. If fringe stuff is fine Thelehma, Wicca and Theosophy is a perfect example of new religions rising.
that's just an appeal to popularity and saying that the model of organized religion is the only valid one for spirituality
Teosophy is just second hand superficial readinga of actual religious texts
same with thelema and the other neo-pagans groups
But are you moronic? If you are op... you ask why new religions aren't made. It's because no one is making them... then you ask why there needs to be someone making them... obviously things don't happen out of nowhere. They need someone. A creator. Almost as if... God exists and no thing can come from nothing
>larpers competing
There's a reason why truth is impopular
Wicca is an attempt at that. Gardnerian Wicca is some silly feminist nonsense though.
The reality is, there aren't really any new Gods to find. The Pagan religions built around local deities and practices, and were more or less standardized as various cultures spread and became influential.
A religion needs some kind of deity and associated rituals and practices, and a cult built around it. Sure, you could make shit up and create a new concept of deity, but if you know you're making it up, what's the fricking point?
>there aren't really any new Gods to find.
so you think
>religions are only legitimate if they were made up
Wrong. Nobody claims this.
धर्मं तु साक्षात् भगवात् प्रणीतं
Dharmam tu sakshat bhagavat pranitam
Religion must come directly from God
The living tradition is necessary to defend the original teachings and prevent them getting distorted. Time is a constant. And there's always heretics and unbelievers ready to attack and doubt
that's moronic and assumes that there was just one religion in the past, that people in the past got everything right, that the traditionTM and """original""" teachings are worthy something and that people can't get in contact with the spiritual/divine
there's no reason for anyone to take the traditionalist school of though seriously
>that's moronic
You are moronic
>there was just one religion in the past, that people in the past got everything right
Yes
>people can't get in contact with the spiritual/divine
You obviously can't. But you see, the methods are there for everyone to learn. You just wouldn't be willing to do what it takes, as evidenced by your knee jerk reaction to reject the tradition, proving what i just said. You just want to be the god of your own religion and there's no reason to take your kind seriously
it is if you go far enough back wich most dont even consider. before vedic and before paganisms there was a true religion.
time of miracles is over
read principia discordia
I agree worship the totally new and most power full god borderlands .I have murdered all the old gods and am now your ruler. I will show my mercy by allowing you to drowned your self in your toilet .rgnra
If you actually believe in a pagan god or doctrine or spiritual practice, then it doesn't matter if it is "legitimate" because that's just democratic bullshit consensus searching.
Believe what you believe and convince other people to believe in it too and now you have a new religion.
I worship the Aryan Dawn Goddess, Hausos, whom I equate with the Vedic Ushas, the Greek Eos, and the Nordic Freya, and whom I address as the Goddess Lucifer. I don't do it because it's popular or because it's seen as legitimate. I do it because I believe.
>Goddess Lucifer
Lucifer is a dude and in Norse paganism, he was called Ljósálfar
This is why there is a big debate happening in “traditional pagan” circles - the need of a priestly lineage and divine initiation, which is causing some to look east to the vedic traditions. Paganism as it exists now will never survive or grow to be influential, it’s too confused, too focused on idenitity politics, it needs a core group of priest-prophet type figures to emerge and guide it on the right path, with or without vedic guidance. If even such a great teacher were to emerge I doubt anyone would even take him seriously in this spiteful era
And I can already hear the vikingbros whining about how we don’t need a savior - maybe not, but influential teachers aren’t foreign to pagan beliefs, like Apollonius, Hermes Trismegistus, Plato, Pythagoras, Zalmoxis maybe, the druids, and others
Just start being Pagan. I currently use Santa, Mrs. Klaus, Jesus, Nobody, Jack Frost, Lizard People, Zombie Doctor, and Shub-Niggurath.
>lizard people
>Jesus
Be gone Gnostic
Why did you only pick out the israeli ones?
They arent demonworshippers tho, theyre larpers. They dont worship the demons, they worship teir own ideas and give them the names of fallen angels like odin or thor.
