"Muhammedan" is fitting in the same way Christian is, not because they worship that person but because it makes sense to refer to a 'muslim' that way if your not a Muslim. What does Islam (surrender to God) mean to someone who doesn't share the same understanding of that being and logos. Muhammedan is tangible because it refers to a person who actually existed that you can emmulate.
