Pov: you've never read Aquinas
kek
Why would you choose Thomas over Augustine? Prots (and all their moronic children) are a footnote to Augustine.
Because original sin is moronic
eh, you are probably too narcissistic to have ever considered why people enjoy pointless cruelty
It's not because someone ate some fruit 6000 years ago that was given to him by his wife listening to a talking snake, that's for sure.
I maintain that Christianity was a non factor in European history. Pre protestant Europe basically just continued the Greco-Roman traditions, and protestant govvernment tended to separate the church and the state.
based
Frick abrahamic religions.
Europe was great before their relevance and would have been even greater if those had never existed.
~~* *~~
>celebrating the inherent greatness of Europeans without is external influence israeli
It's like the Elders of Zion themselves are shitposting
Not only that but he plagiarized Averroes
>reject plato shit
>christianity has no philosophy
>glitch in code
>*press f10 to restard*
I mean, American protestants have some... interesting political movements, and I think that is precisely because they rejected the Greco-Roman philosophy, but instead of becoming atheists like Nortehrn-Europe they actually took the resulting religion politically seriously.

This is how OP sounds like.
Unironically is there a single reference to the old testament in Dante's works, such that said concept was unique to the old testament?
Is there any part in the Divine Comedy where it is not referenced? The Divine Comedy are infinite references to the Old and New Testaments, to Greco-Roman culture, literature and philosophy, and to all the knowledge that Dante had at the time. If your question is whether Dante believed in the "New Covenant" and therefore preferred the New Testament to the Old Testament, then yes, Dante was a Thomist so he would have follow the New Covenant. This is why he believed in a Aristotelian God.
Can you give examples of old testament references?
>speaks negatively of Greco-Roman paganism
>appropriates the philosophy and theology while arrogantly claiming paganism is inferior
No pederasts want to take a swing at Augustine? Can’t say I’m not surprised.
Catholics treating Aquinas as if he is the 4th person of the trinity

>"greatest christian philosopher in history"
Aquinas is baby's first Christian theology/plilosophy. Augustine is a step up.
Now Athanasius is where stuff gets intense. That's when you get to the great stuff, the philosophy that's distinctly and deeply Christian.
Redpill me on why Augustine is superior, and Athanasius is further beyond. All I know is that Augustine basically created the concept of original sin due a misunderstanding in translations.

The Absolute s— Church
>Redpill me on why Augustine is superior
1. He basically defined Western theology. The stuff Aquinas didn't get from Aristotle, he got from Augustine.
2. Because of the time he lived in (schism-ridden church + paganism still around), he answered many of the objections to Christian orthodoxy and formed a theology around this defence. He had his own takes on the Problem of Evil (and it's nature) along with a glimpse of political theory and theory of history (namely in City of God).
>and Athanasius is further beyond.
I elevate Athanasius further beyond because, while Augustine was a Christian Platonist and Aquinas a Christian Aristotelian, Athanasius provides a theology that is more thoroughly Christian (only borrowing from pagans when absolutely needed).
Plus, he pretty much defined orthodox (both lowercase-o and uppercase-O) Christian theology. It's thanks to his work that Christians have a detailed theology of the Trinity and the Incarnation of Jesus. Protestant, Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox churches alike all owe their theology to him and his writings.
De Incarnatione (On the Incarnation) is a classic of Christian philosophy even today.
Fug, I need to read about them. Thanks Anon.
The idea that Eastern and early Church Fathers were not or less influenced by pagan philosophy than Western's is an Eastern myth and NO that must ceased because it is not true. Just check from what school St. Athanasius was and what philosophical foundations they had.
>The idea that Eastern and early Church Fathers were not or less influenced by pagan philosophy than Western's is an Eastern myth
I didn't say that. I said that he focused more on explicitly Christian philosophy and theology.
>Guys, every MUST have a cause and effect! Basic causality!
>But how did everything start, hmm?
>This CLEARLY shows that something uncaused was NEEDED to happen! This is OBVIOUSLY god!
>W-Wait, an uncreated universe? An eternal universe? Those are both uncaused and break causality. Those can’t happen!!!
>An uncaused god is different because………… well he just is!!!
>t. Never read Aquinas
The worst part about Aquinas is that his causality argument is already bullshit, but then he just outright rejects the potential of an eternal universe because he's too much of a mental midget to go past college neoplatonism. Instead, he just calls the Prime Mover as the Christian deity and calls it a done deal. What a hack
