Why is buddhism considered a religion if they don't worship buddha?

shouldn't it be a philosophy?

Buddhists believe in gods, demons, and other paranormal things.

Everything that has do with the afterlife is a religion. Also this

They believe in gods, ghosts, demons, reincarnation and karma

In the West, we tend to underestimate how many supernatural things Buddhism believes in, this is because it is normally marketed by quasi-atheists

Religion as a concept did not exist in asia until western intervention. There was no word for it. In chinese and japanese buddhism is literally referred to as buddhist teachings/doctrine 仏教/佛教.

It is pointless to say that "there was no word for that" (assuming this is true), because even when you have a specific word for a certain concept, people will often attach their own subjective meaning to it. As an example, see this anon's rather subjective interpretation of the word "worship"

Worship is a dirty word, it means to feed someones ego. Buddhists devote themselves to Buddha. The Old Testament God wanted to be worshipped, Jesus Christ wanted you to follow Him.

False, it's like saying Jesus was God, but it wasn't. He was Son of God like Buddha was too.

        >He was Son of God like Buddha was too.
I must have missed the passages in the Pali Canon where Gotama Buddha praises "God" instead of teaching emptiness and the Four Noble Truths

In some countries Buddhism had other indigenous religions attached to it like Bon (Tibet), Taoism (China), Zen, and Shinto (Japan).

What if I want to worship the Old Testament God? I am very fond of him.

You can't really since it goes directly into the new testament that says Jesus was the son of god that absolved all sin with his death and set up the final judgement in revelations
Everything between now and the end of humanity is under the narrative of the NT

Humanism is a religion as well.
A religion is a set of beliefs and practices that put forward an "ought" - a way humans should be living to improve existence and give the most people the greatest chance to be "successful", however you define that.
Religions often incorporate supernatural elements, but there is no requirement for them to call a structure a religion.
