in islam, jesus wasn't crucified and wasn't god, but in this movie he is because it's literally all just a dream as he's dying on the cross saving mankind from its sins and he wakes up and the gospel narrative continues as normal
of course the fact that that's the final 60 seconds of the film indicates that most of the people complaining about it didn't watch it

Didn't watch the movie, is it like a PTSD reverse flashback of a traumatic event he knows he will undergo in the future? That'd be kind of interesting and would actually make sense for him to have had

This does happen in the movie. He's constantly dreading his fate but knows he must keep going anyway.
What Anon is referencing though is [Spoiler]

the controversial ending of the movie where on the cross Jesus dreams of what his life could have been had he chosen to live as an ordinary sinful man.

In the film, the last scene is Christ repudiating the "Last Temptation" the Devil puts him through and fulfilling the atonement of man's sins -
        >IT IS ACCOMPLISHED!

everything "non-biblical" about the film is very expressly portrayed as a vision in the mind of Jesus

        >jesus wasn't crucified and wasn't god, but in this movie he is because it's literally all just a dream
and that dream is literally Muslim Jesus, God sends an angel to save him from the cross while the crowd is tricked into thinking he died and the angel tells him he isn't God and he goes on to live a Muslim life with multiple wives

yeah and all of that is explicitly portrayed as Satanic - you know, the TEMPTATION part of the title? the Devil is the one giving Jesus that vision as an attempt to get him to refuse his sacrifice on the cross via the reference to Christ calling down 10,000 angels to free him

But then why did Christians get so mad??

            Because he has sinful thoughts.

they were either american evangelicals (i.e. not christians) who didn't watch the movie or else they were autistic catholic clergy who determined that putting such non-biblical content into a movie about the crucifixion is theologically unacceptable

also there's a case to be made that having a person of French ancestry play Jesus is blasphemous, since Jesus was an anglo-saxon

Muslims still conceive of Jesus as an ascetic

He is an ascetic in the movie up to that point, and Muhammad was also an ascetic but that didn't mean he didn't take multiple wives.

Not like that though, Jesus is still a virgin and doesn't hold property and such

            Good question, probably not

My only issue with the film is the phase where Jesus was told the axe was the path forward. It would have been a good alternative to the gospel tale of Jesus if it excised that entire phase.
