Where did the idea we would be living in some kind of utopia right now if only not for religion originate from?

Where did the idea we would be living in some kind of utopia right now if only not for religion originate from? How did they convince themselves 20th century tradegies were all religious?
to quote the great christopher hitchens

"In 1917 in Russia, millions and millions of people had been told for hundreds and hundreds of years that the head of state was divine. The czar was also the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, the “Little Father.” If you were Joseph Stalin, you shouldn’t be in the dictatorship business if you can’t see there’s a huge opportunity. A huge reservoir of credulity and servility has been gifted to you by the previous regime. So what happens? Inquisition, heresy hunts, worship of the supreme leader, and miracles—giant tomatoes. Whatever it is, it isn’t secular."

While the majority of wars had nothing to do with religions and were simple land grabs and enslavement expeditions, christians did cause 10 centuries of scientific moronation in the west.

Because Christians are backwards thinking reactionaries.
That’s not to say that they’re the only ones, or the only group with bad ideas, but Christians themselves are bad idea machines.
Exceptions don’t overturn the rule. Easily more than half of you are literal monarchists

The great ideological wars of the 20th century and all the mass scale horrors that surrounded them are effectively secular religion wars. The zealotry, schism over the minutia of belief, apocalyptic rhetoric, messianic/profit figures, allusions to some ideal utopia. Religion without God & religious wars without religion, it doesn't need to make logical sense to be true, nothing is ever so clean cut when it comes to the human condition.

He's not saying it you moron, he's pointing out that Stalin exploited the deeply ingrained spirituality of russian peoples to create a system that ran on crypto-religious principles while claiming to be atheistic. Soviets ran on the orthodoxy fumes before falling apart, much like current US liberals run on catholic fumes before they inevitably collapse.

Liberalism is the secular extension of christianity. Extreme dogmatism (lgbt is the new church), moralism over utility (CRT is the new Bible), witchhunts (from Salem to Twitter), puritanism (from abstinence from sex to abstinence from traditional sex), intergration within state, business, and education (from Bible studies to gender studies, from authority of pope to authority of diversity managers).

It's not that religion is opposed the science, but abrahamist religion absolutely is.

literally nobody actually believes this anymore, not even the larpers here. even if you find religious people annoying (understandable frankly), nu-atheists were the worst aspects of religious people with none of the good.

right, which is why europe developed science more rapidly than any other continent. you don't need to be politically correct on Oyish, it's a muslim and israeli problem. mostly the former since once the industrial revolution happened israelites got in on it too.

Europe developed technologically, AFTER buckbreaking the abrahamist tyranny of the catholic church. Why do you lie by omission?

i mean the papacy sucks ass yeah because one shitty pope and all of europe is ruined but with a decent one they still did science.

Even during the best of times they were really shitty. Forcing scientists to follow the platonist dogma means that they can't get much done.

But he's right though. Real secularism has unironically never been tried.
