In my earlier years it was Pascal's Wager, although when I came across a more elaborate and complete iteration of the contingency argument, it sealed the deal (likely) for good.

Arguments like that can only really bring you to Deism though, not typical theism.
Would you describe yourself as a Deist or a Christian?

When the faithful of any religion display a practical value of their dogma. For example, christians claim to have a patent on western morality, yet the statistic doesnt show any but most marginal improvement between christians and non-christians when it comes to criminality.

Patent doesn't mean you can do it better. It means you have the real thing, which in the strict ethics sense is completely true. Christianity has a foundation to their eithcs. Atheists extremely rarely do.

It would be impossible for me not to believe in God because he rapes my mind every second of every day and harasses, terrorizes, abuses, threatens etc me through everyone else on earth who he controls as a moronic troony hivemind

I "believe in God" because there is no other framework for reality which makes sense.
How do you define "make you believe in God"
    what does this mean?
I was an atheist; but ultimately it made less and less sense to me that this Universe with immaculate governing laws which came to be ex nihilo in a moment in time simply did so for no reason due to nothing.

Many things could do it. For instance, seeing a devout amputee regrow an arm or leg.

        >seeing an amputee regrow an arm or a leg = reading a story from the 17th century about some guy supposedly regrowing a leg
Another thing that could do it would be meeting a christian who doesn't have garbage reading comprehension.

          Anonymous

Not him, but pretending that "I would need to see" automatically implies "first-hand" is something even flat-earthers wouldn't necessarily commit to. His reading comprehension is fine. Please work on your communication and approach to proof.

            Anonymous

If I didn't intend to communicate that I would need to actually see it, I would say something like "I would be convinced by an amputee regrowing a limb". I specifically said that I would need to see it precisely because things like the account he posted would not convince me.

Unlike you, I'm not a virgin. After all, I don't follow a religion that recommends becoming a eunuch and teaches that finding women hot is evil.

Again, "see" gets used for seeing reviewed reports or data all the time. Please re-consider.

I will not reconsider. There are certain contexts where it can be used as such, but my wording was clear.

            My comment stands.

Of course it's a bit more nuanced, but the bottom line is that you should not be having sex out of wedlock. Are you married, or are you a virgin?

I'm an atheist but I hate these reddit tier arguments that take bible verses out of context. You people chose the weirdest sounding translation and try to extrapolate the worst possible meaning using the English language. It's unacademic and sad. That said, I'll address these verses.
            >Matthew 19:12
The point of this verse and the surrounding passage is that it is better to not marry if there is a high probability of you getting a divorce.
            >Matthew 5:28
This doesn't teach not to find women hot. It teaches not to look at them with lustful intent. So looking at porn. Perving in women. Intentionally trying to get a better look at her ass. That kind of thing.

Christian God or generic god? For the former I would require a proven miracle which is more easily explained by such a deity than natural forced. I E. If he wrote "I am God" in the sky with a booming voice that many people could hear, while it may be possible for it to be a mass hallucination, it's probably God at that point. As far as a generic God goes, I think there is an entity or force equivalent to such a concept .

    >appreciate religions and their Churchs are just mans attempt at understanding god combined with his natural instinct to organise, structure and acquire power
    >reading more, solitude and introspection
The ancients had it right and most religions have the fundamentals right but with multiple layers of crap added on top mostly to manage/control population.
The key is solitude, literally all the greats spend long periods alone and that's when "god" speaks to you.

    A revelation, or,

A demonstration of the good which justifies all the evil in the world, which would admit a perfectly good creator. I believe there was a creative principle, but it can't be God, because evil cannot come from perfect good.

Like measuring Christ's weight next time he comes back. Surely modern science will have figured out by then how to determine whether something is material or divine by uhhh scanning for divine particles.

    >What would make you believe in God?

    I don't actually know.
I've said in the past that a personal appeal or some display of miraculous ability might convince me, but I've had time to crystallize that thought and have come to the conclusion that even that wouldn't be sufficient enough. Because realistically there isn't any actual meaningful, nor substantive, way to separate those experiences from either a mental illness, and/or a demon/sorcerer, respectfully.

Which is funny because I absolutely had this thought when I was reading (I think?) The Teachings of Buddha.
There's a parable where Buddha is with his disciples and in order to cross a river they pay the ferry fee of like 10 cents. While the disciples are crossing over on the boat another wiseman (Buddha had a lot of competition during his era), uses his sorcery to simply walk on the water and traverse the river by foot. Buddhas disciples are annoyed; they've seen Buddha walk on water before, they know he has that miracle in his spell list, so why didn't he cast in on himself and them to save them the fee?
Buddha waits for them to cross the river and does two things: 1. He tells the Wiseman his magic is worth a 10 cent boat ride. 2. He tells his disciples that spiritual growth is more about cultivating ethics, peace, and superior morals, if they want to learn magic simply so they can save money they're welcome to follow the Wiseman.
