There is no argument against solipsism EXCEPT God. If you are an atheist then you should be a solipsist.

There is no argument against solipsism EXCEPT God. If you are an atheist then you should be a solipsist. And many act as though they are the only mind that exists - they are complete egoists.

Choose one: God or solipsism

You can’t prove or disprove solipsism. What CAN be proven is what gets pussy and what doesn’t. So I don’t really care about solipsism as long as I get pussy

    >You must be solipsist if you are an atheist
You must accept solipsism as a possibility, since there's no proof for or against it, but accepting that something MAY be true is not the same as basing your whole life around it. While accepting that Solipsism may be true, I nonetheless choose to ignore it because I don't find the idea of a universe where I am the only existence to be fulfilling or worth living for.

Exactly. You make a choice FIRST. Your belief is already lived. You then create a rationalization for the belief.

Atheists would believe in God if they lived it. It's a choice. You can't get to true belief through rationality. You must make a choice. Just like choosing to not believe solipsism. You live it first and then find the truth of your belief.

If you're going to pretend like you rely on pure rationality for your beliefs, then you need to accept solipsism.

anon you do not understand his argument. At best with no evidence either way solipsism is a 50/50 coin flip. A 50/50 coin flip does not mean that I have to accept tails is true because tails is an equally likely outcome.

It's not 50/50. Solipsism is rationally stronger than non-solipsism. More parsimonious and simple.

            Why?
Throughout life I have experienced and talked to millions of minds that think and act in much the same way I do, and I know that biologically they have exactly the same make-up as me.

Whether I can directly experience that they have a consciousness doesn't change that the most rational deduction from the above information is that they also have a consciousness like me.

That's your rationalization of your belief. That's not why you believe it. You started believing that other people existed when you were a little kid, way before you ever thought rationally about it.

Solipsism is the more rational explanation if you start from an objectively neutral viewpoint.

If I have to assume God therefore no solipsism, why can't I just assume solipsism is wrong?

Also, it's pretty easy to imagine a scenario with God and solipsim. For example, God exists, and I am an incarnation of God, hence why I am the only person with consciousness.

Explain how you escape solipsism without invoking God. Your explanation must be more parsimonious than solipsism.

Nothing about reality changes if I am a solipsist or not. So therefore it is obviously irrelevant and has no bearing on anything. If all things are subject to my mind, then let it be this way or that. If it's not so, then clearly my mind is not under my control, and therefore solipsism is again rendered irrelevant.
No need to invoke God at all, solipsism negates itself.

          Anonymous

That doesn't solve anything. Reality can exist only in your mind and not be in your control.

Also, it is relevant. If solipsism is true then suicide erases reality (and you). If other worldviews are true, suicide could lead to an eternity in hell (or other options).

            >Reality can exist only in your mind and not be in your control.
Then it doesn't really matter if solipsism is true or not, because it has no effect on my life and it's impossible to know for sure.
            >If solipsism is true then suicide erases reality (and you).
Death in general erases solpsist reality.
            >If other worldviews are true, suicide could lead to an eternity in hell (or other options).
Seems pretty minor. Solipsism is unknowable, anyway.

yeah plenty of atheists are just secular unitarians but that's a moronic claim op, nature's law has declared that solipsists don't deserve life.

The best argument against solipsism is that there are wills capable of opposing mine. If solipsism was real there would nothing capable of opposing my will or imposing its will on me, I would have the life that I desire but I don't because there is a will that is separate from mine and hostile to mine.

You aren't in control of your own will. Read Schopenhauer. Your will could be inventing obstacles for you.

It''s not reasonable to believe that there isn't an external will imposing itself on me. Some things are subjective but in general human desire is fairly straightforward, people generally want the same sorts of things, there is an objective-subjective "best life possible" for a human. If my mind was the only mind in the world then my will would be the only will in the world so naturally my will would be made manifest and rationally you have to assume that means that I would be living the best human life possible but I'm obviously not so there's obviously a will separate from mine imposing its will on me.

the first based doomer. now you just gotta imagine what the supreme will would look like and what your relationship to it would be? hint? it’s loving

The "supreme will" is hateful and abusive since it forces me to lie a life that makes me miserable and imposes itself on me in ways that are hateful and abusive.

i figured you would say something like that. firstly no, no one makes you lie but yourself. but the fact you experience suffering leads you to believe the nature of existence is evil?

            Anonymous

Live a life*. Yes God forces me to live in this world. If I kill myself he just reincarnates me. Yes, the fact that I am forced to live a life of suffering against my will makes me believe that God and existence is evil.

solipsism is unfalsifiable, so it is mere sophistry.
