The best proof against Christianity is that God deliberately wrote a book with an incomplete and inconsistent scientific understanding of the world.

The best proof against Christianity is that God deliberately wrote a book with an incomplete and inconsistent scientific understanding of the world. The Church put Galileo in time-out for correctly pointing out how our solar system works, because they argued that he contradicted scripture. But of course they eventually found a way to cope and sweep this embarrassment under the rug and pretend that everything is ok. Then Darwin came along and made everything even worse. Why would God make the theory of evolution so reasonable? It explains sin much better than any religion. It explains pretty much everything, even though we don’t completely understand how every little trait evolved over billions of years.

So why would God purposely do this? He either wants people to be atheists, or he doesn’t exist.

    >The Church put Galileo in time-out for correctly pointing out how our solar system works
    That's not really true.
The problem with Galileo is that he had a difficulty personality. The ones who argued against him were not even clergymen but the scientists of the era who correctly pointed out he did have many problems in his theory but presented it as truth. He was right, but by accident, since their criticism was right about his faults.

The Pope asked him to present his theory as a theory and he basically wrote a book where he called the Pope a simpleton.

homie they condemned him to house arrest for heresy because it contradicts scripture to say that the earth moves around the sun. They banned his books and prevented all discussion about it. They didn’t want the evidence. It took over 200 years before they would overturn this ban

        Anon, that's the meme view.
Galileo's problem was not that he was considered an heretic, but that he was difficult to deal with.
You know, by ignoring relevant criticism of the scientists of his era and calling the Pope who actually even liked him a moron in a book.

God “WANTS” you to be in his image, which means having the supernatural ability for consciousness, which allows you to create your own evolutionary environment by exercising free will. He’d prefer if you stick to a few (universal) rules of morality, so that your free will doesn’t lead to something self-destructive or socially harmful.

    >the church did x
Yes, human institutions are run by humans, and are therefore bound to be corrupted by human desires. Yes, most people in any position of authority will use their authority to gain material power and influence. Yes, Christians recognize the people’s latent disposition to sin and that it is impossible to change human nature.

    >It explains pretty much everything, even though we don’t completely understand
It sounds like you’re describing a religion, except it’s just a scientific theory. I’m not saying it’s wrong, but it doesn’t explain any moral or immoral actions. All you can say is that pleasurable things trigger chemical responses to make you think they’re good/fun, but there are countless pleasurable things that actually have bad consequences (you’ll need that god-given, evolutionarily inexplicable ability of consciousness to understand those consequences). Altruism and mate selection are the most that evolution can explain about human social interactions, but clearly we have a great breadth of human relationships that can’t be explained.

What is love? Inb4 chemicals and evolution bro
    THAT’s religious thinking

      > but there are countless pleasurable things that actually have bad consequences
Yes because society is constantly changing. We didn’t evolve to have porn readily available at our fingertips. Even thousands of years ago, people were not quite evolved enough for their society, hence the creation of laws and religions. If our society could somehow stop advancing technologically and culturally for thousands of years, then you would see sin beginning to disappear as natural selection removes the most self-destructive individuals.

Because the semitic desert religions aren't the true religions. Its best to start decoupling of what you think of as God with whatever israelites from over 2000 years ago thought about it.

It doesn't care about science at all. That's not even the point of Genesis. You read it with anachronistic eyes, but it's a liturgy. You're thje equivalent of like some fool who expects to get a spaghetti recipe from a insurance policy.
