Is it possible for the world to have purpose, beauty and mystery in the same way the pre-secular religious world did while also still retaining reason, science, industry and modernity? Are there any books that deal with this subject?

Smallpox isn't real. Neither is salmonella. I eat 4 raw eggs for breakfast every morning. Everything science says is real is literally fake. When Napoleon's soldiers were contracting plague, I believe in Egypt, he believed that it was a matter of willpower whether you lived or died. A sentiment echoed by many learned people. Just read Melville's take on it in Moby Dick last night, somewhere in the 100-110 chapters. I adhere to that too. Without medicine I'd do fine, and I don't accept doctors consuls or witchcraft now either.

the modern world also invented new incredible ways to die as well, you may not die from smallpox but you may get ran over from a large, tonnes-heavy metal boulder tomorrow as you leave your home and forget to look both ways

Yeah but they weren't raped to death by subsaharan blacks in their own homes if we go back 300 years and prior.

They were in sub Saharan Africa. And people were raped to death in their own homes by Nordic Vikings in medieval Europe. Violence has always existed. I hate modernity, but we must take care to lay blame where blame is due. Black people are not a problem of modernity.

Blacks are way fricking worse than any killers that came before them. Vile simian creatures. Of course they're a modern problem when you agree in your first sentence that they wouldn't be here without modern inventions like cross continental boats, planes, etc.

            They didn't have weird cancers
They didn't have manufactured diseases like covid
They didn't have 30% of the population with morbid obesity, diabetes and heart issues
I could go on but whatevs

all vastly different concepts, purpose yes, beauty, yes, mystery maybe. the ever growing magnifying glass that humanity points towards the universe surrounding it, humanity's constant & growing need for analyzation, seeking and knowledge has so far to proven to be detrimental in most ways, but, even though marginally, positive in others. "reason, science, industry, modernity" are all unavoidable consequence of the evolution of any species, and to ignore it's fruits in light of the necessary daybreak of tomorrow, the necessary future, the necessary next hour in the evolution of everything would be silly

what the frick did this goofy aah homie smoke lmao
there are such things in "evolution" as dead ends, and guess what, dead ends typically don't realize they are dead ends because their capability to see trajectories doesn't go past an almost instant interval compared to the timelines involved in "evolution"
maybe in as little as 500 years the only extant members of homosexual sapiens will be few hunter gatherers scattered around a largely uninhabitable planet which homosexual sapiens domesticus/familiaris made inhabitable for its own clade

You want to go down the rabbit hole of New Sincerity/Metamodernism. Beware, googling metamodernism mostly pulls up reddit-tier pseudo-right pseudophilosophy, maybe avoid it until you have a grasp of new sincerity/90s modernist revival.

there's no way new sincerity is any good right? like i feel like any simulation of true human expression, any supposed "rebirth of human beauty" or whatever you want to call it, immediately falls on its face simply because it is a simulation of it, no?

The problem that makes you unable to appreciate the world is mass conditioning that gives you a false sense of understanding. Reason, science and industry are not the issue.

Pre-modernity had all this. These stockholm syndrome victims identify the encroaching systems of control and mindrape of our barbarian age as moral virtues. But it’s all good because we can squeeze out an extra 10% breaths out of the ass-end of life.

I was browsing google maps the other day and came across a country with no name on it. I had never seen or heard of this place and it was very weird.

It made me realize mystery could still exist. The second your brain accepts the idea maybe you have not been told everything and are getting propagandered by your gov, is the second the mystery comes back.
Imagine some country exists that did something so bad to us in the past we have deleted it from all our maps and history and never speak of it. They live isolated form the rest of the world in this country because everyone blocked them out. How would you know?

Take the crazy pill anon, then anything is possible.
