    >NO YOU CAN'T DRESS IN MODERN FORMAL ATTIRE. YOU HAVE TO DRESS IN FORMAL ATTIRE BUT FROM 1,700 YEARS AGO!
    >Why? Uh, because, YOU JUST DO. JESUS SAID SO, I think, maybe.

      Modernity is degenerate and evil

Modern dress is another sign of Christian moral decay and laxity, based on the Reformatikn belief that tradition is not important if there’s no “pratical benefit” for its existence.

It’s truly incredible to watch people in 2023 argue about what piece of cloth to wear when they pretend to talk to an invisible man. Did you fall out of a time machine from 1000 years ago? Unreal.

The average Baptist minister isn't for real? OK I get A but come on. B seems best. Formal but not overly ritualistic.

          >Dressing like a ~~*American businessman*~~ in the house of God

No, Jesus drove the merchants out the temple. You are preaching the Gospel as it’s been written not trying to sell salvation like a israelite.

Pretty sure Jesus just dressed like an average israelite at the time, didn't walk around in a stupid hat

If a suit and tie seem unnatural or formalist to you that's really a statement about your own social class

Literally braindead. Catholicism should be illegal.

But it isn’t formal attire, it’s religious attire. You understand that you would wear different clothes for formal/casual occasions, but you reject that there is any other occasion where you might have to wear something else?
It sucks when reactionaries type without thinking

Am I misremembering or did you once post a study that talked about how the early church priests all wore the same clothes as the laity and were in fact discouraged from wearing anything fancier?

        Dirk

That wasn't me. I'd be interested to read that. The mainstream view is that everyone wore normal clothes, especially before the edict of milan

American/Anglo Christianity is so utterly disconnected and different from the Type you encounter in Europe and the Middle East that its barely the same religion.
A Catholic in the US has a more similar religion to an Syriac Christian from India than to his Baptist neighbour

      >A Catholic in the US has a more similar religion to an Syriac Christian from India than to his Baptist neighbour
White Catholics in America are basically just Protestants with the extra hyperdulia DLC. Very few of them actually have the Catholic Faith™, and are only Catholic because their great great great grandfather was from Sicily or something.

Imagine thinking you can impress God with your fancy robes.

    Ο Σολιταίρ

how you can believe this and then claim you follow Christ?
    >Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
    >And he said unto them in his doctrine, beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,
    >But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

I'm not arguing that a Christian should dress like a hooligan.
    But come on.
