No because Maccabees BTFOd luther so badly on purgatory he had to crawl to the Pharisees for an OT canon that would back him up.

When it came to the canon of Scripture the israelites received the Holy Spirit, not the apostles.

    Me. I'm a Protestant, and I believe it's 73.

There used to be a Bible in my house that had 73 books, so I said "73 it is", and 73 it has been since then.

Methusian. I believe true knowledge of the word of God comes from me and myself through my reading of the 73 books of the Bible. I accept no other sources, not even the works of famous theologians like John Calvin and Huldrych Zwingli.

Considering Calvin and Zwingli were demon worshipers you have done yourself a huge favor

I've read some of them. The book of Tobit is cool, and Wisdom of Solomon seems like it predicted Jesus.

There are different ideas of what constitutes Esdras. I believe there is some contention on which scripture is actually the 1st and 2nd.

Either way the Catholics don't include the books that the protestant apocrypha refers to as 1 and 2 Esdras

The number of books in the Bible correspond to the home run record. It was 61* from Roger Maris to Mark McGuire (70) and then went up to 73 books in 2001. You might want to subtract books depending on how you feel about PEDs. American League protestants have 62 books in their Bible, but the American League is an offshoot denomination full of heretics.

Seething a little because I bought a Catholic edition of a Bible I didn't realise was originally written by Evangelicals and they refer to the deuterocanonical texts as "Apocrypha"

The catholic esv is based. You're welcome.
It's simply a better translation and crossway is the best large manufacturer.

Cry to your own church who gave it the imprimatur

Not only is it authorised, but it is the preferred text - the approved lectionary no less - for Catholic service in England and Wales now, supplanting the Jerusalem Bible.

I didn't know that but I'm glad to hear it. I see no reason for ecumenical minded mainline protestant churches to move that way too, considering the 1989 NRSV will no longer be published

To be honest I dont hate it I just wish they didn't refer to certain Biblical texts as Apocrypha in the Catholic version.
I think it's good to have a range of Bibles to compare (but I still find Douay Rheims the best).

Which texts? Can you show me what you're talking about?

The DR is a translation of a translation, making it the worst possible option

The blurb on the rear of the ESV Catholic edition Bible used in Catholic churches in the UK refers to Tobit, Judith, 1-2 Maccabees, the Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach and Baruch as "Apocrypha".

It was approved by the Indian Council of Bishops along with the NLT-CE IIRC. For some reason the group that drove the production of the ESV-CE is now doing an entirely new translation called the CSV:

What do you think of the controversy over the 2016 ESV updates and do you expect them to be revising it again?

            Dirk

I didn't really hear rumblings about the text being controversial. I think it's a good idea to continually update and I expect that to continue.

Just read all the scripture you can find. Don't limit yourself. You should also read the Quran, the book of Mormon, the doctrine and covenants, the gospel of Nicodemus, everything. All of the apocrypha, the didache, everything.
